I am in france for 3 months visiting my fiance. would like to work a bit while i am here. does anyone have sugeestions? Only thing i dont speak french yet. anything would be helpfull

Sorry, you cannot work in France. It is the same thing as illegal aliens working in the USA; the French will not hire you. Have fun and forget working France.

The only thing you might be able to do would be to pick up some English tutoring work or private child care - definitely off the economy.

noble one you can work in France as long as you are from a country from with in the EU ... your chances are very slim though due to the language barriers ... the french consider jobs for the french are for french only and very very rarely use foreign labour .... i would rate your chances as 5 out of a 100 in getting a job due to you not speaking french ... also they really are not keen on black people i say this only if your British and used to our ways .. in France my Friend its a whole new ball game and have seen their racism 1st hand .. they are about 30 years behind the UK on those matters .hope this helps and good luck

You are right about Craigslist - all I see now is how many different scams are being operated on there and so many people falling foul of them. Also to be honest, Craiglist just isn't used in Europe by the vast majority. I only ever heard of it after seeing it on Yahoo Answers! Anyway re your direct question - I saw it wasn't answered, and although I can't help specifically, I would advise you to place it again in the section specifically for France. There are a lot of regular's answering there and they give really good answers for France and Paris specific questions. Where you are you from, hunnybuny? You might not even be allowed to work in France. And even if you are, it isn't that easy to find a job - temporary or permanent. You might get lucky, just don't expect much.

you can buy single tickets or book of 10 tickets metro pass ("carte orange") works by week or month. Careful: not 7 days, but a week (Monday to Sun I think but check it out), so buy at the beginning, not at the end. also tourist passes for 1, 3, or 5 days cheapest and best way is the subway (metro). goes everywhere, fast (if no strike). One ticket takes you anywhere inside Paris, you can spend the day in the subway with 1 ticket as long as you don't come out

Since you've already gotten answers on how the metro pass works, I'll answer your second question. The cheapest, and most enjoyable, way to travel is walking. It's beautiful to see all the shops and just everything you will pass. When I go there with my family we walk about 5 miles a day, and don't get tired. We dn't go sightseeing, we just like the French atmosphere. We go there for about a month every year. But if you are going somewhere like Notre Dame then I would suggest metro, but you should always take a chance to walk around and look at the city.

I don't think you would need to know fluent french, only maybe a few phrases. hello = bonjour. how are you? = comment ça va? very good = tres bien. not bad = pas mal. thank you = merci. do you speak english? = parlez vous anglais? yes = oui. no = non. and you = et toi. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 = un, deux, trois, quatre, cinq, six, sept, huit, nerf, dix. there's probably some other stuff you need to know, but that's just the basic stuff. I'm only learning as well, but I know pretty good basic french. maybe get some books, I think the lonely planet ones are good. my grandma and grandpa got one when they went to paris and it has everything in it! if you do decide to go, enjoy your trip!

Possible? Yes. However it would be ridiculous and stupid to commute like that on a daily basis. The eurostar train that runs between Paris and London takes 2 and a half hours and costs £150 which is equivalent to $300USD.

But, La Defense is the the big business district and most of the product-oriented companies are located in the suburbs. Montparnasse is a business center in the city limits but most jobs in the inner city are service-oriented, like, restaurants, hotels, banks, boutiques and department stores, etc.

You would probably be better off at a Disney park where English is the main language, right? Then you have to deal with getting the proper papers to be able to work abroad. Hong Kong used to belong to Britain; maybe that would be a good choice for you.

No, there is a region lock. Region locks are burnt into the disc. The only way to play it is to use a Wii from EU. Those Wiis have the code to unlock. Canada & US Wiis have a different North America Code

Unfortunately your american wii is NTSC and only supports NTSC games. Europe games are PAL and only consoles designated to play PAL games will play them. learn french, if you dont already no it. Save up some money, and just go. Even if you mess up, how great of a story would that be?

Assuming you are Canadian, you need to get a work visa. Then hope to Heck you can find a job! (unemployment is high in Europe right now). Most people in Europe don't go to school and work at the same time. Minimum wage isn't going to be enough to live on....you know that, right?

french people are soooo rude. and there are gypsies and pickpockets. the french crime rate is really bad...

You won't get a work visa without a job. You need to speak French. You won't be able to work to sustain yourself and go to university at the same time as there's a limit in France on the number of hours a student can work. So, you either find a job and move in or you get a place at a university and manage to get some financial help from your own country (you won't get it from France). In both case you get a visa.

You will need to get a work visa which requires a confirmed job offer from a valid employee. Students in France are not like students in the US and Canada, as most going to university do not work or only work a few hours. There is a limit on how many hours a student may work, because the government wants dedicated students who are not trying to hold down a full time job to distract them from their studies. Basically, you are either a student, or a worker. If you are a worker, you may need to enter the country under the skilled workers classification which means you have a highly desirable skill, unlikely for a 19 year old. If you are entering on a student visa, you will need confirmation of acceptance to the university you plan on attending and a certain amount of cash ahead of time to prove that you can sustain yourself financially and will not become a burden on the system. French is a must, even in Paris, no one likes accommodating a non-French-speaker in the workplace and you will not get hired anywhere without advanced knowledge of French. Do not expect accommodation or help just because you're a foreigner, people really do detest that here. Perhaps in a better economy you would be in a better position to gain employment or study here, but unemployment rates are high especially for the underskilled.

A friend of mine worked in Paris for about 3 years, he didn't have to find a job, the company he worked for sent him there. He had grown up in French Canada and spoke French fluently.The problem is that Canadian French is slightly different then the French they speak in France, so they had him pegged as a foreigner almost immediately. Because of that, most of them made it extremely difficult to work with them, and did just about everything they could to make his life miserable. He was ever so glad when his boss told him he could come home. You have been warned.

I am a 19 year old student sick of college, how can I live and work in Paris for a year maybe as a waiter?
I just wanna leave the US for a while. I'd like to get a full time job in Paris where I can make enough money to pay for an apartment, food, some spending cash, and occasional trips to other european cities. The only special skills I have is that Im fluent in spanish and I know some high school french, which I would like to improve so I can be fluent. take a semester or even a year in paris, earn some extra credits in a diffrent school. but don't leave school all together, you'll never make enough money to support yourself. paris is expensive. and if you are enrolled in a school then you can stay in the dorm which is cheep and may even come with a meal plan. once you are in paris, may i suggest, rich bf... that way you might get to enjoy the glamourus side of europ.

I've moved around quite a bit over the years and started completely new most of those times. The biggest thing to do is save up enough to last until you can get your first paycheck...not until you get a job, unless they pay you cash. Figure out the exchange rate for our money and their's and find out how much it is to live comfortably for about 1.5-2 months. What would be better is to look for job listings while your here and apply...maybe you can have a job waiting for you. Then factor airfare, food, utilities, spending money. It won't be easy... but it also depends on how much you want it and how agressive your willing to be.

Personally I would look on the ESL job boards. Teach english as a second language. There are lots of schools around the world that want any native english speaker with a high school diploma. if you are interested in ESL, take the Cambridge, or CELTA online ESL certificate which will help you get jobs. I want to make a print of my dogs' and cats' feet, would plaster of paris work or is there something better

I want to make a print of my dogs' and cats' feet, would plaster of paris work or is there something better?
The plan is two pour the plaster into a square mold, let it set up a little, then press Boo's, Tako's, Mr. Chip's, Pooter's, Garfield's, and Bob-o's paw *or paws* into it to make a print. Then I'd write their names and estimated birthdays above or below the print, and leave it at that. Possibly paint the name. Is that viable? I've never really messed with plaster. My immediate thought was cement, but these are small prints and I want detail, and I don't think cement comes in such a fine grain. Clay could work, but only if I could get someone to fire it for me. Bone dry just doesn't do well if something happens. Would a ceramics store that does do classes fire it for me if I asked real nice and payed them? Then I could glaze, fire again, and have pretty tiles as memoirs. Input? The prints are meant for a walk-of fame type deal for whenever I settle down. I'm gonna start doing the tiles now just in case something happens to any of the pets before then. besides, how is making a footprint in clay harder than making a footprint in ink?

The ceramics store should fire it for you. I'm sure they would also help you with deciding what type of clay to use, etc.. As far as the plaster, I've never worked with it either so I can't really advise on that. BUT, walmart and most craft store sell a product that you can do the same thing with a baby's hands and feet. That would suit your purpose quite well. I believe it's called Precious Moments or something like that. It's in the craft section at walmart.

Clay would work better than plaster of paris. Basically, dont use anything on your pets that you wouldn't use on yourself. You can take the clay to a school or university or yes, anywhere that does classes and they will do it cheaper for you. Just make sure there's no "bubbles" or small unsealed cracks, or the whole thing will explode!!

Okay, that seems like a lot of trouble to go to when they are hard to get to be still anyways. I did a scrapbook for my best friend of his dog and wanted to get his print. I went to the craft store and got some ink a dark color of red, blue, or black should work and then just put their foot on the stamp pad and then onto paper. If you worried about it rubbing off the paper, you could just laminate the paper after you got all the prints you want. I would clean their paws afterwards just so they don't get any irritation from the ink. You might be able to find ink especially made for dogs and cats. Good luck.

Check out your local pet stores, I am sure they would have something for you to use. I know there is modeling clay you can "bake" in your oven. I would not use plaster of paris. It is messy and hard to get out of your pet's hair. If you can't find the modeling clay to bake, take the clay and spread it in the bottom of small carton. Make the impression and then poor the plaster of paris over it, so you can get a reverse impression.

A lot of craft stores like Michaels and Joanns sell kits for doing just this. They come with disposable molds and decorations. Kids love them.

from what I have read there is a bike station with a series of basic single speed bikes available. you walk up to it and leave a deposit with a credit card and take a bike, if you keep the bike they keep the money. each bike has a electronic transponder that reports when it is returned. if you return it to another station then you are not charged for the bike. you can keep it for up to one day. but as of now that project is on hold see news report link.

Its not free although it is very low cost. There are 10,600 posted at 750 stations all over the city. You can take a bike and put it back at any station around town. The basic charge covers trips of twenty minutes or less (to encourage rrturning the bike to the a stand after each usage). A year long pass costs the equivalent of $41.75, a one-day pass costs $1.42 and a seven-day ticket goes for $7.15. The service is offered in eight languages and its machines accept foreign credit cards.

Since I live just 2 minutes from one of the Vélib stations I decided to investigate! Paris Vélib Service (Vélib is short for “Velo Liberte” or “Bike Freedom”) is a city-wide bike rental service. With plans for 20,600 bicycles available on 1,451 stations, it is the largest world-wide bicycle rental project. I had some luck as when I arrived at the Jaures station as there was a ratp truck unloading new bikes. I spoke to the RATP employees and found out there are currently about 13,000 bikes in place right now with plans to have 20,600 by the end of the summer in 1,451 stations. The bikes just arrived a few days ago (on the 15th of July – right after bastille). I walked down to the Jaures Vélib station and rented one! It’s a pretty cool bike; a bit particular looking but no one seems to mind riding them. I road it about 30 minutes and it did well. It’s not meant for comfort so watch out for bumps in the road and cobblestones. It has 3 speeds so is fairly flexible. It also has lots of illumination so seems fairly safe at night (I’ll try it tonight and see how it goes). It’s got a steel cable inside the basket that has a large steel plug attached to it. Seems to be device for locking it up somewhere but I have not seen any places for doing this yet. You have to buy a Vélib pass first: Daily card is 1 euro Weekly card is 7 euros 1 YEAR is 29 euros To get the 1 year card you have to go online and sign up and get an “abonnement”. You can also obtain the 1 year card by filling out a form at the Mairie (the various city halls in each arrondissement), any metro ticket station, or many pastry shops as well! There is a 12 point legal summary that you must accept to obtain a Vélib pass (one of the annoying features is having to read through the entire legal acceptance form on a small screen). The Main interface (a color plasma screen) for the details of the bike pass then the smaller LCD screen for the details of your bank card. But, it’s very similar to the RATP and SNCF machines used to get metro and train tickets (at least in the complexity of the user interface). To get the 1 year card you have to go online and sign up and get an “abonnement”. Most people visiting Paris will probably want to just get a bike for 7 days then check it in/out as needed over the 7 days. Either of the three choices do involve a 150 Euro “deposit”. Once you process a payment, you select the stall number, then go push the button on the stall corresponding to the bike you selected. Then you just go ride off into the sunset! Then return the bike at any other station. Once you have the pass and bike you are charged based on how long you ride it – simple. If you check out a bike and ride it for less than an hour and a half it’s free! But if you ride it longer you have to pay - A supplement of 1 euro will be charged for an additional half-hour, 2 euros for another 30-minutes and 4 euros for every addition half-hour after that. I live 1 hour south of Paris in a medium sized city. We have our wheelie bin collected twice weekly- Monday and Thursday. We wheel the bin out to a collection point on the curb as we live in a cul-de-sac but if you live on a main road you just put it in front of your house. The cost is covered by a local tax called taxe d'habitation which also covers street lights etc

Your local taxes pay for a garbage collection service handled by the city's services. The bins (green plastic ones on wheels) are usually in a small dedicated room in the building and people put their garbage in them. Green top is for food garbage, yellow top if for plastic, cardboard, paper..., white top if for glass. Green garbage trucks go through the streets twice a week to collect garbage in the bins provided by the city. If you lose yours tough for you, you pay for a new one. You put your bins outside in the street in the morning and pick them up when they are emptied. For bigger items you put them in the street and call a number at the city hall to tell them about it, a small truck will come by to pick it up. The service is free as you have already paid for it with your local taxes.

I have visited Paris many times, but have not lived there, so I don't know from a local viewpoint. However, I do know that garbage collection in Paris is DAILY and people put their garbage bags on the street curbs (especially the bigger streets) for collection. Are you aware that you only qualify for a French student visa if you are registered with an official educational establishment in France such as a university or a language school where you are attending a regular course? The student visa is usually issued for the duration of the course and does not allow a period of employment either before or after the actual course dates. Universities are closed during the summer which leaves you with the option of a fee paying language school. Just being a student in the USA as such does not entitle you to work in France or any other EU state. To get a student visa you need the following: •A proof of studies in the USA (letter from the school or university) •A letter of admission from the school which the applicant plans to attend to in France •Financial guarantee such as a notarised statement certifying that the applicant will be provided with a monthly allowance of $600.00 for the duration of his/her stay in France, or a proof of personal income along with a letter from school stating that room, board, and tuition are fully prepaid (+ 1 copy). If the host provides the student with a letter attesting that the lodging will be free of charges, and a copy of his/her pictured I.D., an allowance of $400.00 will be accepted. (Be sure to check on these money minimums, as they can change) You should also be aware that at the moment the job situation in France is very poor, and if you are not fluent in French your chances of getting employment are nil . Just to add to Wise Owl's answer, if you have a student visa you are not allowed to work more than a certain number of hours as you're supposed to be studying the rest of the time. And to find a job in summer is next to impossible, recruitment is done either in September or in May/June as many people take their three weeks holidays during the July/August period and companies don't bother trying to recruit during that time.

I am from Belgium, I come regulary in France and in Spain . In both countries I use the provider "Orange". The first time you use them have to give your region where you are and they do the rest. I'm using NOKIA N95 8GB. I start the internet, browser and everything goes like i'm in Belgium. No problem at all. I can do the windowslive, the google, the yahoo everything as home. When you inform maiby ask for "Orange" they do nice job. The costs almost the same as in my homecountry.

Techinically yes, it will work. The only thing is that some companies put a bar on calling (although not normally receiving) when abroad, for security reasons. So if she has't already been abroad and used it, it would be wise for her to contact her service provider in advance just to make sure Oh - and also get her to check, because she may be charged for both making and receiving calls abroad as well.

I travel to paris for a week in november. i read about a paris bike rental system. I found the web site but do not read french. how does it work? how much? are bikes safe? can i lock up when i do not ride? can i do something now to prepare to rent them? seems to have a card i can get now maybe but don't undrstand the french stuff well.

I've read about it too... I think you sign up for a card and you can get a bike from one of the many stations in Paris... basically, you ride around and drop it off any station. I think the system is called "Velis" or something like that. You might need to check out the system more, I think its designed with city residents in mind, although you should be able to find rental places that cater to tourists.

I haven't tried it yet since it just started. The idea is simple. You buy a pass for a day a week, a month or even a year. The you just take a bike from any of the stands and return it to another when you get where you are going. The rates are set in such a way that you shouldn't just keep the bike all day but return it at the end of each trip. Apparently there is some sort of computer monitoring of each bike to know how long it is in use.

Just an anecdote heard on the French news tonite ; the system is indeed very popular in Paris but parisians use the bike rental mainly for going down hill and because most people do this, there is not enough room to leave your bike there as it is full !! and there are no bikes left at the places uphill !! So the speaker on the news asked people to be courageous and climb up hill ! lol :-) bon courage !

i just got from paris and i saw the rental systems, although i didn't rent a bike, it seemed very simple. there is this little thing that looks somewhat like an atm, you stick your credit card or cash in it and they unlock a bike that's lined up next to it. you don't need to notify anyone that you want a bike, because it's all run mostly be machine and you just walk up to one of the places and grab a bike, and there are rental places every few blocks.

Hi. The service started on July 15. I've ridden the bikes several times since then. They have a lock attached to the frame that you can loop around stuff. You can just pay with your credit card at the station but the coolest and easiest way is to obtain a navigo card before you arrive (www.navigo.fr), then link the navigo with a velib account (www.velib.fr). It's a bit complicated doing this (have to send 29 euros to Velib outside Paris) but the result is being able to just press your Navigo card on the bike stand and ride away! Then you don't have to mess with the interface (which is only in french still - though there are links to english but it still does not work; only displays the french). if you want, send me an ID-type photo of yourself and i will appy online and get it for you! (I've done it twice; once for myself and once for my daughter). You can also use the same navigo card on the metro and buses! (very cool system here). You can use my address in Paris and I'll mail it to you when it arrives. Also, if you are looking for a vacation rental I can help there too as I can refer you to 3 properties I have contacts with here in Paris (I own one of them). The french translation sites don't really work. You can get the gist of a web site but you won't be able to understand the actual process to do something. Better to find someone that reads french! In my travels I have found that flat Irons work fine just make sure to bring a outlet converter... I bought mine from Wal-mart. (cheaper) Mine works in many, many countries because it has many different countries outlet prongs. On the other hand through hair dryers will need to be under a certain wattage in order not to blow a fuse with the outlet converter. Just read what voltage your converter says and don't use a hair dryer stronger then that!

If your iron works with outlets in the USA without an adapter/converter, then it will not work in Europe. You will need an adapter. You can call your hotel and see if they have loaners available or you can try and find one when you get over there (I know when I lived in Florence, they had them at what was basically a dollar store.) Your best/safest bet would be to purchase one before you go. Brookstone or Sharper Image would be good places to look here in the US - you can also search for adapters/converters on the internet. Another thing to keep in mind is that all European outlets are not alike...what works in France may not work in Italy or Germany, so make sure you get a multi country adapter/converter or several separate ones. Do you know that you need a work permit to work in France if you are not a citizen of the EU? You should also understand that unemployment among the young in France is VERY high.

The legal working age is 16, or 15 for co-ops and apprenticeship programs. As the other poster mentioned a visa/work permit is mandatory to work legally anywhere in the european union, unless you have a EU citizenship or a resident status. In case you dont, I think Canadians are eligible for the working holidays visa program which would allow you to work legally in France for 1 year. If you do not have a visa and wish to work illegally, be aware that all decent employers will ask for your working papers. I would not advise you to get a steady kind of job illegally unless you got your job by a friend or connections and will be employed by someone trustworthy. You will be underpaid in the best case and your employer might blackmail you by threatening to call the cops on you (though he'd be in as much trouble as you'd be). A good informal job would be to help people pack/unpack boxes and all that on fairs and markets. You can usually agree upon a fixed payment, nobody will ask any questions though the job will most likely be tough. Finding a job legally might indeed prove hard given the unemployment rate it is however far from impossible, even if you don't speak French. Paris has a strong english speaking expat community and this would be a good place to start. You might wanna look on the web. There's also a free newspaper for expats called Fusac http://www.fusac.org/ which has classifieds for jobs in paris from translations or english private lessons to full time jobs. You can also check craigslist, the paris section is becoming more and more active and you will find several offers posted everyday (though only a small percentage of them are worth looking into). How do the rates for hostels in Paris work?
Im staying in a hostel for about a week in Paris. Im trying to reserve a room for me and two friends. Most of the hostels dont have dorm rooms like they do in other parts of the world, so I figured a triple room would be fine. Most are lsited close to 100 euros. Is this cost per person or for the whole room? Im pretty sur eits for the entire room. I just want to be sure so we dont get jipped

Do yourself a favor and look at websites like www.hostels.com and www.hostelz.com and read lots of reviews. I've read lots of scary stuff about some of the Paris hostels. They seem to be pretty disgusting in general and I think you pay per person. Not sure though.

Comparied to other hostels in Europe, hostels in Paris are not all that great. I would suggest a 2 star hotel. There are lots of them, and you can find them in better areas than most of the hostels in Paris. We stayed at Hotel Montebello near the Metro stop Duroc and it turned out to be 45 Euro a night (for 2 people), which was about equal to hostel prices---plus we got our own room and own bathroom and better location.

Is it ILLEGAL

Is it ILLEGAL...?
To cut up a dollar bill? I know writing on money is supposebly illegal but is cutting the bill up illegal? The reason I ask is cause it's in "the fasion" to get your nails done with dollar bills for tip(kinda like the frence tip) the money is there instead of the white tip. Just a random question. Im not worried about getting arrested or anything. NO the government loves it when people destroy money. It is out of circulation and they did not have to replace it. Kind like a gift card that never gets used. Just money in the bank for the retailer.

There are actually two laws, one for paper currency and one for metal coins. The law for paper currency simply states, basically, that defacement which renders the bill unfit for recirculation is illegal. Writing on it doesn't prevent it from still being used as money. I don't know how an entire dollar bill could be used on the tip of a nail, but if it's just a piece of the dollar, then for the most part it hasn't been rendered unfit. Now, ripping up a bill in little pieces, or shredding it, or burning it would render it unfit for recirculation, but since it doesn't exist anymore, where's the evidence of a crime? (Besides, who's going to spend thousands of dollars of government time prosecuting over a $1 bill?)

I have to do a project for Frence about Henri Matisse. Please let me know if i could change anything about it and give me your ratings please. Henri Matisse, a famous painter in France, was born in Le Cateau On December 31st, 1869. He grew up in the Northeastern part of France with his family. In 1887, he went to Paris to study law. At that time he worked as a court administrator. After about three years of working he had Appendicitis, which caused his mother to buy him art supplies. While Henri was still sick he passed time by painting. After recovering at 1891, he studied art at the Academie Julian and became a student of Adolphe Bouguereau. In 1896 he exhibited 5 paintings in a Salon and the state brought 2 of the paintings. In 1897, Henri became a student of John Peter Russell because he was a more flexible teacher in the work of art. Afterwards at around 1898, he went to London to study the paintings of J.M.W Turner. During this time, he married Amélie Noellie Parayre. The two had Jean in 1899 and Pierre in 1900. On 1905 he moved South to draw flat shapes and control lines. Afterwards, Henri and a group of artist, started a group called “Fauves”. This group gathered in a room in Salon d”Automne. In the room Henri showed the group several paintings such as “Woman with a hat” and “Open Window”. Many of Henri’s finest works were made between 1906 and 1917. About 50 years after, On 1954 November 3rd, Henri Matisse died.

The information sounds great, but you need to make sure to separate paragraphs. Remember the rule of thumb: 3-5 sentences per paragraph. I don't know if you have to cite references, but I noticed that you have quotes listed without citing a reference. All in all, it sounds great!!

I would change the part about the appendictitis causing his mother to buy him art supplies. A better way to put it would be "...he came down with appendictitis, and his mother bought him art supplies to help him pass the time." Don't capitalize appendictitis. I would also add how Matisse died, if you know the reason. Otherwise it's nicely detailed and sounds good.

i just bought my sister a wii for new years and we were trying to set it up we did everything we connected everything and we turned it on and it said press A. so we pressed it and then is said please select a language then the screen came up that said englidh frence and spanish. its not letting us select it what can we do to make it go past that screen! please help me or else my new years will be :(!! thanx in advance!!

make sure the batteries are fresh also try re-syncing your remote. that means press the red button by the sd card slot on the wii and the red button in the battery area on the remote at the same time.

I need to cool down my apartment in Los Angeles, but I only have french doors and no regular windows. Fans dont work when its really hot, and I dont want to alter the doors or glass panes (I rent, and dont want to pay back any damages).. Contact a locl AC firm and ask about Fujitsu individual units. They heat and cool and are controlled with a remote. There are other mfg.. I just happen to have Fujitsu. These units are commonly used in Australia, Guam, Japan etc. etc. Talk to your landlord for $$ help. They would add value to the unit.

Last Summer, I saw an air conditioning unit that does not require any duct work or vents. It looks like a large fan, but produces cold air and it wasn't very noisy. Check Lowe's or Home Depot; maybe they can help you locate one. P.S. Go to Air-n-Water.com Their prices are much lower and they have a larger selection. The first one is similar to the one I saw.

buzzy and braves are talking about the same type unit it is called a mini-split it runs on 110v and can produce up to 3 tons of air. there is an outside unit and inside unit and you need to connect the two maybe a 3" hole so i dont know if it would work maybe you could run them out where you dryer vent normally is???
