I am a 19 year old student sick of college, how can I live and work in Paris for a year maybe as a waiter?
I just wanna leave the US for a while. I'd like to get a full time job in Paris where I can make enough money to pay for an apartment, food, some spending cash, and occasional trips to other european cities. The only special skills I have is that Im fluent in spanish and I know some high school french, which I would like to improve so I can be fluent. Is there a sane way of doing this or is this something really hard to do? I'm poor by the way (Im a college student)

i would say go for it... take your american headbands and matching parachute pants and waiter your ass off... just scratch off that whole idea of apartment, food, some spending cash, and occasional trips........ oh and do you like sleeping in alleys?

take a semester or even a year in paris, earn some extra credits in a diffrent school. but don't leave school all together, you'll never make enough money to support yourself. paris is expensive. and if you are enrolled in a school then you can stay in the dorm which is cheep and may even come with a meal plan. once you are in paris, may i suggest, rich bf... that way you might get to enjoy the glamourus side of europ.

I've moved around quite a bit over the years and started completely new most of those times. The biggest thing to do is save up enough to last until you can get your first paycheck...not until you get a job, unless they pay you cash. Figure out the exchange rate for our money and their's and find out how much it is to live comfortably for about 1.5-2 months. What would be better is to look for job listings while your here and apply...maybe you can have a job waiting for you. Then factor airfare, food, utilities, spending money. It won't be easy... but it also depends on how much you want it and how agressive your willing to be.

Get real! The only thing a frenchman would have you doing is a job that involved you naked on your knees. A "silly ass" is what you'd be. A frenchman with economic power over a young american. Grow up.

Personally I would look on the ESL job boards. Teach english as a second language. There are lots of schools around the world that want any native english speaker with a high school diploma. if you are interested in ESL, take the Cambridge, or CELTA online ESL certificate which will help you get jobs. Just don't pay more than $300 for the certificate course (takes 6 to 8 weeks). www.teachabroad.com www.daveseslcafe.com Not sure if there are any jobs in france, but there are lots of jobs around the world for ESL teachers with high school diplomas. One of the biggest problems with trying for any job in the EU is that you need a EU passport. Unless you have citizenship you are usually screwed. The ESL teaching route works great for ASIA, south america, and africa really well. here is a position in spain, but you need at TEFL certificate (I mentioned it above) http://www.eslcafe.com/joblist/index.cgi?read=15301 here is a position in moscow http://www.eslcafe.com/joblist/index.cgi?read=15335 here is a position in thailand http://www.eslcafe.com/joblist/index.cgi?read=15328 ecquador http://www.eslcafe.com/joblist/index.cgi?read=15322
